The unique imaging properties of the OCT technology provide an insight into morphological and functional parameters of various biological tissues.
Our focus is on the design and implementation of both imaging devices and data evaluation methods for the assessment of these biomarkers and investigate their relevance in preclinical and clinical studies.
Here our research includes: Firstly, the morphological and functional imaging in the anterior eye segment, ranging from the assessment of the dynamics of the precorneal tear film and its lipid layer to the evaluation of the aqueous outflow system. Secondly, we measure functional parameters and properties like blood flow, oxygen extraction and neurovascular coupling in the retina and investigate its intrinsic optical signals. Not least, OCT and its functional extensions allow us to gain an insight into physiological processes during dermal woundhealing.
