"Applied Medical Image Processing" is a textbook for undergraduate and beginning graduate students interested in the basic techniques of medical image processing. Besides a short introduction of basic medical imaging physics, it contains more than 70 simple hands-on examples of MATLAB code introducing algorithms for saving and opening medical image data, for operations in intensity space and for filtering operations and for segmentation. Beyond that, a special emphasis is laid on three-dimensional spatial transforms, on multimodal image fusion and on visualization and rendering. A final chapter on tomographic volume reconstruction includes the volume. The sample code, together with image data, is provided alongside the volume on a CD. All code examples can also be run on Octave, the public domain counterpart of MATLAB.
